D&TCC Spring Newsletter

D&TCC Spring newsletter 2021

Hi folks, I hope you’re keeping healthy.   No doubt you’re all working hard on physical conditioning so as to be in peak condition for the coming season.

The Devon League season begins on Saturday 1st May so please keep this date free.

Glenn has arranged some pre-season games:

Sunday 18th April:  Stoke Gabriel away, 2pm start.

Sunday 25th April: Ottery St Mary away.

If you’re interested in playing contact Jono on 07808 295413.

May promises to be a busy month with Devon League matches every Saturday and also:

Wednesday 19th May:  Harberton (away) 6pm

Sunday 23rd May: Corinthian Cup 1st round pool at Chudleigh: 10am start

Versus both Chudleigh and Brixham                                    (Reserve date 6th June)

Thursday 27th May:  Aaron Printers Cup:  v Brixham (home) 6pm

(Reserve date 3rd June)   If successful it’s Bovey Tracey away in the second round on June 17th.

Covid 19 arrangements

The Devon League are planning for a full season.    The Government are much more cautious this time around as there remains uncertainty re: potential new Covid strains and vaccine effectiveness.   At least for the first part of the season we will need to bring our own teas again.   Very similar match arrangements are in place to last season e.g sanitising hands every 6 overs, not using changing rooms.   You’ll be aware we need to remain vigilant re: Covid 19, particularly since 1 in 3 people are not aware that they have it.

It would be helpful if one person from each team (not the captain who will be busy enough) could take responsibility to ensure potential hot spots are regularly sanitised on match days and that the opposition sign in etc.   There’s now a QR code at the Club which can be scanned provided your mobile supports the NHS app.

Shirt sponsors

We have new shirt sponsors New Lion Brewery and Keld’s Investment company, Cosmos.   Unfortunately, he’s going to be working in Gibraltar!

New shirts will be available shortly and can be ordered online from Devon County Sports once the new logos have been printed.

Subscriptions and match fees

We have kept subscriptions and match fees the same this year: £65 adult subscription, £7 match fees, (£5 without tea).   Please be aware that subscriptions and match fees don’t cover our costs.   The cost of the ball and umpire alone for the first team is over £5 per person (£57.50 per week).

Crowdfunding

A special mention for Harry Baxendale who organised a crowdfunding initiative, which has considerably helped our depleted bank account.

Potential Projects

Currently we are involved with the Football Club in Grant applications both from the FA and Section 106 money (our nets were half funded by S106 money).   We’re looking to enlarge/ update the changing rooms and update our ancient ground machinery.

Personal Accident Insurance

We continue to advise players to consider taking out their own personal accident insurance. Our previous insurance policy paid out £20 per week if a cricket related injury resulted in someone being unable to work.   Thanks to an ECB partnership with Howden’s Insurance we’ve been able to gain a better package for slightly less outlay.   Under our new policy players are covered for £200 per week for ‘temporary total disablement’ after 28 days of being unable to work.    Cover includes cricket travel, matches and training.   Of course, just like the insurance company, we hope nobody will need to claim.   I’m happy to let you have a look at the policy.

And finally….  Does anyone have ideas about how we can communicate Club information via a one stop shop?   I currently send out info via the Club Facebook page, email, Club website www.dartingtonandtotnescc.com and sometimes texts to maximise the number of recipients.      A good number of people use the Facebook site, and email but I know some of you don’t use email and some don’t use Facebook!

Nets

Tuesdays from 5.30 pm.

Wishing everyone a good season and plenty of fun.

Mick
