Sunday 20th June: Sam Gornall hat trick can’t prevent defeat

A fine hat trick by young Sam Gornall put D&T in a strong position as Ivybridge chased 209 to win at Foxhole today.  Gornall took 4 for 30 as Dazza’s magic deserted him.  Earlier we looked to be in a strong position as Gavin Colegate (66 not out) and Joe Hockings (38) put on a good opening stand.  Jono Lloyd made only 11, Goordy scored a quick 15, Suggy didn’t really get going and Jono Colegate hit a 15 in 6 balls finishing 4,6,4.  With 51 extras boosting the total  our boys enjoyed their tea.  Dazza kept faith with the young lads opening the bowling with Sam Gornall and Josh Thomas.  Ivybridge’s overseas player, De Silva, looked threatening but skied one from Sam Gornall who then bowled the next 2 batsmen in successive balls and later picked up a terrific caught and bowled which was hit hard back at him.  Soloman and Jarvis consolidated for Ivybridge and gradually upped the tempo as Daz rotated his bowlers to little avail.  Sam Gray looked dangerous but only managed one over.  Jono Lloyd coming on at the end bowled well but catches weren’t held before he dismissed Jarvis for 32 in the penultimate over.  Too little too late for us.
