3s go down by 7 wickets

Despite a fine innings of 61 by Simon Heyes the thirds were well beaten by Yelverton 3s, at Harberton on Saturday.  Simon now averages 105 since he scored 46 not out in his only previous innings this season.  He hit a couple of cracking 6s.  If only he was available every week!

Our innings was overshadowed by the sudden illness of one of the Yelverton spectators and we had to summon an ambulance.

The threes thought a total of 167 would be enough but our bowlers never really fired until Nick Dennis took 2 wickets in successive balls in his second spell.  Alas the game was almost over by then thanks to some fine batting by the young Yelverton left-hander Jack Smyly who scored 80 not out.

It had been a desperate struggle to get a third team out after having to cancel the previous week.  We were indebted to President Newcombe who managed to twist his son’s in laws arms and both Dan and Nick performed creditably.  Dan showed a keen eye and scored 12 quick runs and both were called to turn their arms over as we struggled to dislodge the second wicket pair.
